JoenB75 - in some of the newer books they've got Jesus looking like a grumpy elder ready to club someone. When he's not grumpy they make sure he looks boring or wet but rarely appealing.
Are the Watchtower not Preterist? They see Christ as having returning in 1799, 1874, 1914. Looking back in history others had their own idea on dates, including the 1st century. Isn't that what the Catholic church uses to justify it's role?
Forgive me if I have misunderstood the concept of Preterism. It's a while since I read up on it.
The grace of God that is available through Jesus is not something to be taken for granted and treated of little value, so that you can do what you want. But GB take it to an extreme and replace Jesus Christ with themselves. If they carry on, they are going to be in big trouble.
I don't view the scriptures below as something that happened in the past. They are for each of us to keep in mind, knowing that we are accountable for our actions. If I had ignored them I would still be in the Watchtower because what difference would it make if I went along with a bunch of liars?
Heb 10:29 - How much severer punishment do you think he will deserve who has
trampled under foot the Son of God, and has regarded as unclean the
blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has insulted the
Spirit of grace?
Luke 12:4,5 And I say to you, my friends, Have no fear of those who may put the body to death, and are able to do no more than that. But I will make clear to you of whom you are to be in fear: of him who after death has power to send you to Gehenna; yes, truly I say, Have fear of him.
